Just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, a shocking story involving N’Golo Kanté unexpectedly spread on social media.
In recent days, numerous posts on Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter have been continuously sharing a story allegedly about N’Golo Kanté.
According to circulating information, just six days before the World Cup began, midfielder Kanté’s French wife filed for divorce, hoping to receive 50% of the assets as stipulated by French law.
However, during the course of the case, the court reportedly discovered that Kanté did not own any property in his name in France. All real estate and valuable assets were registered in the names of his twin children.
The story even goes on to say that the final ruling determined that Kanté was the one entitled to a share of the assets from his wife. After learning the result, the wife wanted to withdraw her divorce petition, but it was too late as the court had already issued the ruling.
This information quickly attracted millions of views and was shared at a dizzying speed due to its dramatic nature. However, upon closer examination, many signs indicate that this is an unverified story.
Most notably, none of the major French news agencies such as AFP, L’Équipe, Le Parisien, RMC Sport, or France Info have published any information about the aforementioned divorce. Reputable international news sources have also made no mention of Kanté undergoing a divorce trial ahead of the World Cup.

Furthermore, several details in the story raise suspicions. According to previous reports in the entertainment press, Kanté is said to have a rather private family life. Some sources have claimed that he is married to a woman 17 years older than him and that she has children from a previous relationship, but the French player himself has never publicly confirmed this information.
Even the story of Kanté’s marriage has mostly appeared on entertainment news sites and social media, rather than being confirmed by the player himself or his representatives.
Meanwhile, the story of “wife demanding a division of assets but discovering everything is registered in her child’s name” has actually appeared in many different versions on international social media over the years. Numerous cases have involved famous figures being linked to the same story pattern without concrete evidence.
To date, Kanté’s representatives have not responded to the divorce rumors. Major French media outlets have also not reported any divorce or property disputes involving the 35-year-old midfielder. Therefore, there is no basis to confirm the circulating story is true.
With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, Kanté’s attention remains focused on the French national team. The veteran midfielder continues to be one of coach Didier Deschamps’ key players in their quest to win the World Cup.
