BBC Radio 5 Live star Nicky Campbell has opened up on a “long and emotional night” after his daughter was hurt by an e-bike. The broadcaster shared that the upset didn’t end there, either, as his family members were flashed by a drunk while attending the hospital.

Posting to Instagram, the radio presenter shared the details of their chaotic evening. He wrote: “It’s been a long and emotional night. My daughter Lilla was hit by an e-bike hit and run last night in Peckham – hopefully there is CCTV. Once he saw the ambulance arrive (2mins) and the crowd gathering – he scarpered. Her sisters were with her. She is badly injured but now at home. It could have been so much worse. We are incredibly lucky.” He continued: “Then when she and her sisters and a friend arrived at A&E a drunk entered the trauma room where they were and exposed himself to them.

“The police were there and he has been arrested. The police were magnificent. I spoke to them when I arrived at 3.15 and he is now in custody.”

Nicky went on to thank the emergency services, adding: “We all want to say a massive thank you to our amazing police, the wonderful staff at @kingscollegehospital – nurses and doctors. Calum and the team. From the bottom of our hearts. They were all bloody superb.”

BBC co-star Rachel Burden was among the first to offer her support in the comments. “My goodness Nicky – so sorry to hear all this. Hope Lilla and the girls ok,” she said.

Fans then joined in with the messages of concern. One penned: “Oh my goodness how awful for your daughter and the rest of your family. So glad she is home and wishing her a speedy and full recovery. Sending love x”

Another added: “So terrible for your daughters and for you all. So glad that there was and is help and support. We all send you our love Nicky xxx”

A third commented: “NHS staff managing a busy A&E department having to deal with those dangers whilst trying to fix us – tough job. Good to acknowledge what an exceptional work the emergency services do Nicky and of course we wish Lilla the speediest of recoveries.”

Nicky once ended up in tears live on air as he listened to the story of a sub-postmistress jailed after a shortfall in her Post Officeaccounts.

Karen Jolliffe spent three months behind bars and weeks wearing a tag after she was convicted. She called BBC Radio 5 Live to share her experience, telling the host it never crossed her mind the shortfall in accounts was the result of a glitch in the Post Office’s Horizon IT software.

The presenter welled up as he heard the caller share details of her experience and reaction to the ITV drama, Mr Bates vs The Post Office, which brought the scandal back into the spotlight. Nicky could be seen wiping away tears as he listened.
