Former Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher bid farewell to one creature on his farm during the latest episode of his ITV show Fletchers’ Family Farm.

During the show, which originally aired at the end of 2024, viewers saw Liz get some of their animals prepared to leave the farm.

Kelvin explained in a voiceover that they were planning on making their farm sustainable, meaning they’d need to make space for their cattle, pigs and sheep by getting rid of some animals.

Sadly, this meant saying goodbye to their alpacas as Liz met with shearer Kirstie to give them a trim before they left.

Liz explained to Kirstie: “We’ll be sad to lose them, but we need the land back. We need it for the other animals.”

Kelvin shared that the animals had been ‘great fun’ to have on the farm but their time had come to an end.

She added: “They’re an incredible animal, and when we’ve had the odd event at the farm, it’s been amazing. But what we really want to focus on now is what works commercially for us on the farm, so we can put money back into the farm, and they just don’t.

“So, we’re going to get them sheared, get them all cleared up, get them checked over and then plan to sell them on.”

As Kirstie got stuck into shearing the animals, a voiceover explained that although it may look uncomfortable for the alpacas, it was the safest way to do so as it’s essential to their health.

After the first animal had been sheared, Kirstie explained to Liz that the alpaca fleece is perfect for those who are allergic to sheep wool.

Kelvin added: “It’s right that we find them a new home in which they can flourish. For now, we’ll store these fleeces until we find a good use for them.

“We’ll be sad to say goodbye to these wonderful, characterful creatures, but if we’re to focus on being native wildstock farmers, we need to put all our energy into the breeds that help us achieve that dream.”

Kelvin and his wife Liz have been sharing their journey into farming life with ITV viewers since 2021 after they purchased a 120-acre property in Cheshire.

Currently, the show is in its fourth series with the last episode airing in April which saw the family host their very first farmers market on their farm./
