The 1% Club viewers were left gobsmacked as one question in the latest episode wiped out a staggering 21 contestants.
The beloved quiz show, fronted by comedian Lee Mack, sees participants tackle a series of questions – from a 90% question that most people would get right to a 1% brain-teaser that only a handful can solve.
However, in Saturday night’s edition of the ITV programme (October 18), some viewers reckoned the 70% question was more challenging than normal.
One viewer took to X branding it a “massacre” after 21 of the 100 participants got it wrong, whilst another claimed it was “the hardest” 70% question they’d witnessed, reports Bristol Live.

The contestants were asked: “What replaces the question mark in this sentence?”
A series of words then appeared on the screen, reading – “Hot, hard, small, cold, easy” – and host Lee explained to the hopefuls in the studio that they needed to work out what came next from the options “Big”, “fast” and “slow.”
The correct answer was “big”, but the tricky question caught out numerous quizzers.
After everyone had responded, the contestants’ lights illuminated or dimmed to show whether they remained in the contest and Lee appeared stunned when he saw how many people were eliminated.
Viewers tuning into the ITV programme from home were equally baffled, with one writing on X (which was formerly Twitter): “21 people wow.”
“That was so hard,” remarked another fan, whilst someone else confessed: “Struggled on this one so I just guessed A. Big sigh of relief.”
“That has to be the hardest 70% question I’ve ever seen!!!” exclaimed one viewer. “That was a massacre of a question,” another chimed in on the platform.
One fan shared a GIF of a baffled child, as they admitted: “Brain since the 70% question.”
“That was a tough 70% – still in though,” commented another viewer who apparently managed to get it right, while someone else noted: “Not easy questions so far tonight.
“I’m out on this one,” admitted another viewer, while somebody else admitted that it was a “quite tricky” question.
The 1% Club airs on ITV.
