Viewers of The One Show were left puzzled during Tuesday’s programme when Vernon Kay and Alex Jones made no mention of major Strictly Come Dancing announcements.
On Tuesday 19 May, it was revealed that presenter Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe and Strictly professional dancer Johannes Radebe would assume hosting responsibilities for the ballroom this autumn, marking a fresh chapter for Strictly Come Dancing.
The news follows Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman’s departure from their presenting roles on the beloved BBC One dance programme last year. Tess, 57, had fronted Strictly since its debut in 2004, while Claudia, 54, became co-presenter in 2014.
Vernon, 52, wed Tess in 2003, and earlier this month the pair confirmed they were separating after 23 years of marriage. Over the weekend, the former couple were photographed together, honouring their commitment to remaining “great friends” following their split.
Those watching Tuesday’s edition of The One Show anticipated the programme would discuss the Strictly developments, particularly given both shows broadcast on BBC One and Vernon’s connection to the dance competition through Tess, reports the Mirror.

On Twitter, now X, one viewer wrote: “Any comment from Vernon on #Strictly and its new presenters ?? Just asking.. #theoneshow.”
Another account asked: “I thought #theoneshow would mention #Strictly but with Vernon Kay presenting,Perhaps it would be awkward?”
Meanwhile, one viewer questioned: “I wonder if Emma Josh and Johannes will be on #TheOneShow tonight talking about their new roles as #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing hosts?”
Despite making no mention of the Strictly news, Vernon and Alex did have a thrilling announcement to share on The One Show.
Towards the end of the programme, Vernon declared: “Now, before we go, there’s just time to say how excited everyone here at The One Show is on our 20th anniversary year.
“We’ve all been nominated, long-listed, for a National Television Award in Factual Entertainment category. Alex, Roman [Kemp] and myself have also been put on the long list for Presenter category.”
Alex then quipped: “It’s quite a long list, but you know…” prompting Vernon to joke: “Everyone’s on there, let’s be honest”, before adding: “Just give it to Ant and Dec now!”
