Mindy Cohn, best known for her role as Natalie Green on the beloved sitcom The Facts of Life, has shared a heartbreaking  health update with her fansârevealing she is once again battling cancer.
The 59-year-old actress took to Instagram on Sunday to share a vulnerable moment with her followers. In a candid photo from her hospital room, Cohn updated her fans on her ongoing fight with the disease, explaining that she had been absent from social media while focusing on her recovery.
âHave been off social media for a while âcause I had to go kick cancerâs ass,â Cohn wrote, showing off her determination and fighting spirit in the face of her illness. She also shared her gratitude toward the staff at Providence Saint Johnâs  Health Center in Santa Monica, California, for their unwavering support.
âI did so with the extraordinary help of Providence Saint Johnâs hospital staff, especially my nurses Finja, Patty, and Courtney, and my hero, the phenomenal oncology surgeon @antonbilchik,â Cohn continued. âThank you to my family, especially my cherished @tarakarsian @johnwstewart @gregoryzarian, who have been my advocates and always on the ready to help me when itâs âmy turn.ââ
This is not the first time Mindy Cohn has had to fight cancer. Just a few years ago, she bravely went public with her battle against breast cancer. Her previous struggle included undergoing a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation. Unfortunately, her cancer returned, metastasizing and causing her to face another long, painful battle.
Back in 2017, Cohn opened up about the toll her ongoing fight with cancer had taken on her, sharing that it had kept spreading and coming back, leaving her feeling like she was waiting for the next round of bad news. âI kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and then it would. And then Iâd wait for another shoe to drop, and it would,â Cohn said in an emotional interview. âI was frustrated and enragedâI couldnât control any of this. I couldnât fix it.â
But despite the heartbreak and frustration, Cohn has continued to fight, with an optimistic outlook and a determination to live life to the fullest.
Cohnâs Message to Fans: âOnwards! F**K Cancer!â
As Cohn focuses on her recovery, she shared a powerful message for her fans: âOnwards! F**K Cancer!â This raw and uplifting statement reflected her unwavering fighting spirit. Her post was filled with love and gratitude, not just for the medical staff helping her, but for her family and friends who have been by her side through thick and thin.
Her message resonated deeply with her fans, as many celebrity friends offered their support in the comments section. Rosie OâDonnell was among the first to send her well wishes, writing, âU got this girl.â Peri Gilpin, who starred alongside Cohn on The Facts of Life, also shared her love: âLots of Love to you Mindy! Iâm happy you are on the mend. Looking forward to coffee in the near future!â
Helen Hunt, Sarah Paulson, Octavia Spencer, Chelsea Handler, and Ryan Phillippe also chimed in with supportive messages, offering Cohn strength during this challenging time.
Cohnâs Legacy and Continued Impact
For many, Cohn will always be remembered for her portrayal of Natalie Green, the witty and thoughtful character on The Facts of Life, which ran from 1979 to 1988. Alongside her co-stars Kim Fields, Lisa Whelchel, and Nancy McKeon, Cohn became a beloved figure in TV history. But her role as Natalie was just one chapter of her lifeâher strength and perseverance off-screen have earned her admiration from fans and peers alike.
In a 2024 interview, Cohn spoke about her deep friendship with her Facts of Life co-stars, sharing that she was once part of a failed reboot of the show. âIt wasnât me, Iâll put it that way,â Cohn revealed, explaining that one of her co-stars had gone behind the groupâs back to try and secure a spinoff deal just for herself, leading to a lot of tension. âFor a 40-year friendship and sisterhood, there was a tidal wave of emotion around it,â Cohn said.
Despite the challenges and setbacks she has faced in both her personal and professional life, Cohnâs commitment to optimism and strength has remained unwavering. Her willingness to publicly address her  health struggles serves as an inspiration to many, showing that even in the darkest times, there is always a reason to fight.
As Cohn continues to focus on her recovery and prepare for her next chapter, her resilience reminds us all of the importance of family, friends, and support during the most difficult of times.
