During an appearance at the American Film Institute Achievement Award Ceremony in Los Angeles, the Beverly Hills Cop star shared the delightful news that he welcomed his first grandson earlier this year. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Eddie said, “I just had my first grandson two months ago,” and went on to share that he became a grandfather for the second time in early April when his son Eric and his wife Jasmin, daughter of Hollywood star Martin Lawrence, welcomed a little girl, Ari Skye.

Eddie joyfully added, “I had my third granddaughter two weeks ago. So all this stuff is happening. I’m like it’s raining blessings on me. Raining blessings.”

While Murphy did not specify which of his children had welcomed his grandson, reports suggest it could be his daughter Bria, who showed signs of a pregnancy during an appearance at a red carpet screening in November.

This brings the grand total to ten children for the actor. His family includes Eric, 36, and Christian, 35, from previous relationships, and Bria, Shayne (31), Zola (26), Bella (24), Myles (33) with his ex-wife Nicole Mitchell. He also has Angel (19) with Spice Girls star Melanie Brown, as well as Izzy (9) and Max (7) with his current wife, Paige Butcher.

As for his parenting, Eddie shared some sage advice, telling Entertainment Tonight: “Oh, you don’t give advice like that. You know, your kids don’t go by your advice. Your kids go by the example you set. They watch you.”

In addition to his new role as a doting grandfather, Murphy recently posed with his children at the AFI ceremony. Prior to receiving his Life Achievement Award, he was greeted by a standing ovation. Speaking to the audience, Murphy said, “Seeing all of my family, all my kids, my beautiful wife, and seeing all the different people I worked with, I’m just really filled up.” The ceremony, featuring appearances from fellow stars like Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Martin Lawrence, will air as a Netflix special on May 31.

Murphy’s career has spanned decades, starting as a stand-up comic, transitioning to Saturday Night Live, and becoming a film icon with hits like Coming to AmericaThe Nutty Professor, and the Shrek franchise. “Eddie made us laugh and made our nation feel better,” said director Spike Lee during the tribute.
