The couple’s heartfelt announcement came on The View on Wednesday, February 11. A day earlier, co-host Whoopi Goldberg revealed that Alyssa had to miss the show because she had gone into labor. “The first thing we want to do is start by congratulating Alyssa and her husband Justin on the birth of their baby boy,” Goldberg said, sharing the news with the audience. “He weighed in at 7 lbs. and 19-and-a-half inches.”

Alyssa, 36, and Justin, 37, had been trying for two years before conceiving through five rounds of IVF. During this process, Alyssa was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that made getting pregnant more difficult. “I went undiagnosed my whole life until I started this process,” Alyssa revealed. “So that just added to the complications.”

Alyssa expressed how grateful she was for Justin’s unwavering support throughout the challenging journey. “He was there for me throughout it all, by my side at the doctor’s, right there with me,” she said. “I feel so lucky to have such an incredible partner.” Justin, reflecting on their journey, added, “There was so much determination that came through. From the first round to the last, she was always like, ‘Oh no, I’ve got this. There’s nothing that can get in my way.’”

Though the journey was tough, all the sadness and frustration faded when they learned they were expecting a boy. “I’m so excited to be a boy mom, even though I’ll be outnumbered at home because we have two male dogs,” Alyssa joked. “But we wanted a boy first. I grew up with sisters, and I’ve always liked the idea of a big brother looking out for the younger siblings.”

Justin, who grew up with a younger brother, shared his excitement. “I grew up with a younger brother, and you have a built-in best friend,” he said. “Even now — my brother, he’s also my business partner. He beat me to the altar and now has lapped me in the delivery room with two amazing kids. I’ll definitely be looking to him, and my own fantastic father, as an example for the type of dad I want to be.”

Alyssa will take maternity leave from The View, with guest hosts like Amanda Carpenter, Sheryl Underwood, and Whitney Cummings filling in for her at the Hot Topics table starting February 17. Former The View co-hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Abby Huntsman will also make a return.

Reflecting on her time as a host, Alyssa once said, “Being a View host is one of the hardest jobs in TV, but it’s the most fun job in TV. You want women who have strong POVs but can also talk about a wide range of topics… It’s a dynamic and fun environment, and I think they’ve done a great job finding women who fit that brief.”
